As part of our Cool Injected business series, we’re sharing a few of our favorite leadership, technology, marketing and customer service books that can help add horsepower to your business. This week’s book is “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This. For my book selection, I chose Hey Whipple, Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan. From the book’s description: “An often shared book among marketers, advertisers and business professionals, Hey Whipple, Squeeze This, looks at the history of advertising—from the good, to the bad, to the ugly. Among the most disparaged campaigns in advertising history, the Mr. Whipple ads for Charmin toilet paper were also wildly successful. Sullivan explores the “Whipple phenomenon,” and examines why bad ads sometimes work, why great ads sometimes fail and how advertisers can learn to balance creative work with the mandate to sell products.” Advertising is an art—but it’s also a science. Developing the right concept can only come after a process that is creative and analytical. In a world where perception is everything, your business depends on how well you can market yourself and your product. Sullivan reminds us that everything is open to interpretation. Sullivan writes with great humor and confidence. His years in the trenches are [...]

As part of our Cool Injected business series, we’re sharing a few of our favorite leadership, technology, marketing and customer service books that can help add horsepower to your business. This week’s book is “Executive Stamina.” For my book selection, I chose Executive Stamina by Marty and Joshua Seldman. From the book’s description: “In today’s environment, it’s increasingly difficult to turn off the noise. Email, cell phones and other personal communication devices make it impossible to find a moment of peace. Being overworked, stressed and physically exhausted can increase your chances of making critical mistakes. Executive Stamina teaches you a personal training system used by many top executives and athletes to help overcome these obstacles. You’ll learn the skills necessary to balance your extremely demanding career, family and your health by identifying how to properly manage your priorities.” I’ve read numerous books on improving personal and business skills during the years. Executive Stamina book has become a staple—both personally and for my team. This book can be a game changer for executives. Each chapter in the book is a gift to a better life. When we feel unbalanced in life, there are specific chapters for each chapter which remind ourselves of [...]

As part of our Cool Injected business series, we’re sharing a few of our favorite leadership, technology, marketing and customer service books that can help add horsepower to your business. This week’s book is “The Innovator’s Dilemma: The Revolutionary Book That Will Change the Way You Do Business.” For my book selection, I chose The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen. From the book’s description: “In this revolutionary bestseller, innovation expert Clayton M. Christensen says outstanding companies can do everything right and still lose their market leadership—or worse, disappear altogether. And not only does he prove what he says, but he tells others how to avoid a similar fate. Focusing on “disruptive technology,” Christensen shows why most companies miss out on new waves of innovation. Whether in electronics or retailing, a successful company with established products will get pushed aside unless managers know when to abandon traditional business practices. Using the lessons of successes and failures from leading companies, The Innovator’s Dilemma presents a set of rules for capitalizing on the phenomenon of disruptive innovation.” In the beginning phases of creating OPENLANE, this book proved to be an invaluable asset for me as an entrepreneur with a new technology. We knew there [...]

As we continue to celebrate the new look of the Cool Injected ADESA.com, we’ve been taking a look at what we think is cool. To start off, let’s check out the world’s fastest car available to the public. Recently, a new contender challenged the Guinness Book of World Records record holder for the world’s fastest production car, or in other words, the fastest car on the market. The challenger, the Hennessey Venom GT, challenged the title holder Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport’s record of 167.8 mph. After clarifying some technicalities on the definition of “world’s fastest production car”, Guinness reinstated the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s title. Check out the video of Bugatti’s official Guinness World Record track run below. Don’t feel bad for Hennessey just yet. The Venom GT still holds its own impressive world record for reaching 300 kph (186 mph) in only 13.63 seconds, not to mention its 0–60 mph acceleration time of a mere 3.01 seconds. At an organization where many of us are as passionate about what we do as we are about cars, there are few experiences more exciting than the thought of pummeling down a speedway at record-breaking speeds.
As part of our Cool Injected Business series, we’re sharing a few of our favorite leadership, technology marketing and customer service books that can help add horsepower to your business. This week’s book is “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. For my book selection, I chose 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Steven R. Covey. From the book description: “In Stephen R. Covey’s seminal work The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a holistic, integrated, principle-centered approach revolutionized the way people solve personal and professional problems and go on to lead extraordinary lives. With penetrating insights and pointed anecdotes, Covey revealed a step-by-step pathway for living with fairness, integrity, service, and human dignity—principles that give us the security to adapt to change, and the wisdom and power to take advantage of the opportunities that change creates. The 7 Habits—Be Proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win/Win; Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; Synergize; and Sharpen the Saw—are so famous and have been integrated into everyday thinking by millions and millions of people for one reason: They work. Covey offers life-changing advice on everything from leadership, time management, and teamwork to success, [...]

Last evening, we launched a brand new ADESA.com. When we acquired OPENLANE in late 2011, our goal was to create a single marketplace, both at auction and online. And now, we are able to offer customers a website built on the industry-leading technology of OPENLANE. They will be able to find more inventory on ADESA.com, including a broad mix of vehicles available from dealers and all national consignors. Our new website combines inventory at all ADESA U.S. auction locations with upstream and off-lease inventory and company cars available from off-site locations. Customers can also buy and sell cars however, and wherever, they choose: from their lots, in-transit, online and at auction. ADESA.com is now a more powerful vehicle remarketing tool with significant enhancements to the search capabilities and to both the buyer and seller interfaces. Online users will notice several other upgrades: Site navigation and functionality Single sign-on for customers with multiple dealerships Customizable search capabilities Enhanced vehicle details page—including an integrated condition report; users no longer have to open a new window to view this information New ADESA Market Guide with both at auction and online vehicle pricing history Black Book® integration for evaluating fair market price Enhanced home [...]

This month, the car that sparked Jay Leno’s collectible car passion will be passing through one of our auction locations. This 1954 Jaguar XK120 will hit the lanes at ADESA Phoenix on April 24, 2013. It is a rare factory two-seat roadster. Built to compete in road rallies and hill climb competitions, it features an upgraded, high-performance power train. The car also is a former Jaguar Clubs of North America National Race Car Class winner. Take a quick tour with the video and slideshow below to see (and hear) this beautiful classic up close.
