Each year, MotorTrend Magazine puts 10 new performance-focused cars through rigorous testing to determine the Best Drivers Car. In 2014, they awarded the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 this coveted title.

The MotorTrend “Best Drivers Car” is not based on speed, horsepower or price. It is focused on determining the car that is most fun to drive. To determine this, there is a rigorous testing process.

The “Best Drivers Car” decision process includes shutting down a four-mile stretch of California highway to test highway handling, as well as driving all 10 vehicles around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The crew from MotorTrend also drag races all the contenders to determine the best car to drive on both city streets and on a racetrack.

The winning Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was described as “greater than the sum of its parts” and having superior engineering and responses. Having fun behind the wheel is an important part of the testing method and the Camaro delivered.

Other vehicles tested include the Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8 and Porsche 911 Turbo S. MotorTrend makes a point to drive new models that retail for a variety of price points, recognizing that the best driving experience does not always come from the highest ticket vehicle.
