Carla Anderson has been an inside sales representative for ADESA Atlanta since April 2017. We recently caught up with Carla to talk about her exciting—and fast-paced—career as an inside sales rep.

What does a typical day as an ADESA inside sales rep look like?

It’s always changing, and every day is a little different—which is what keeps it exciting. Our team meets regularly so we’re all up to speed on what promotions are running. Then we reach out to customers who have recently bought those types of vehicles to let them know we have them at an upcoming sale. They’re always glad to hear from us.

I also have customers who prefer to come to our office, and I enjoy meeting with them individually and helping them however I can. There’s never a dull moment.

What makes for a successful inside sales rep at ADESA?

Good communication and organization. And you need to have a good rapport with your outside sales reps—I contact mine every day. I might tell her that I just spoke with a dealer and may ask her to run by their dealership to see if they need anything.

We work hand in hand. Also, it definitely helps to be a people person in a position like this, because you talk with so many customers and you need to be helpful and friendly.

Can you tell us about a time you solved a challenge in your position?

We had a customer who didn’t speak English well and needed help with ADESA.com. I sat down with him at the computer and walked him through how to do everything: log in, view vehicles, find our products and services. He was very thankful and appreciated that I took the time to work with him one-on-one. I really enjoy finding solutions for our customers.

How big a role does technology play in your position?

I spend the majority of my time on the phone connecting with our customers. Then I integrate information from those calls into our online systems, including Salesforce. Working effectively in these systems is part of the job.

And of course, technology plays a big role in our industry—it has changed the way dealers buy and sell cars. They can log on to ADESA.com to view live auctions from anywhere.

What do you like most about working in the auto auction industry?

There are so many things I like about this industry. I love working with the dealers and enjoy developing real relationships with them. I also like that ADESA is very involved with charitable giving; we do a lot of community service at both the corporate and local level.

Our industry is fun, fast-paced and competitive—and filled with the best people who are passionate about what they do. If you’d like to join our team, check out our open positions on LinkedIn.
