Tom Kontos on stage at the 2018 AR Canada Conference

Two automotive remarketing conferences in three days made for an exciting week in Toronto, Canada, at the end of March.

ADESA Canada was joined by parent company KAR Auction Services and other KAR business units with speakers, panel appearances and awards.

Here’s a look back at the conferences.

Auto Remarketing Canada Conference

The Auto Remarketing Canada Conference brings together experts in the remarketing and used-vehicle industry for two days of learning, sharing and networking.

Tom Kontos, chief economist for KAR, shared his insights on the strategic trends and issues relating to the Canadian remarketing industry, retail new- and used-vehicle sales, wholesale vehicle price trends and the United States’ effect on the economy and the Canadian automotive landscape.

Trevor Henderson, chief operating officer of ADESA Canada, had the honor of presenting the Franchise Dealer of the Year award, sponsored by ADESA, to Don Valley North Toyota. Charles Grant, general manager of the dealership, accepted the award.

Also in the lineup was TradeRev Regional Sales Director Martin Douglas. Like ADESA, TradeRev is part of the KAR group of companies. Martin joined the conference’s Executive Leadership Roundtable, where he shared his viewpoints on factors impacting the remarketing and pre-owned segments of the auto industry.

The Canadian auto industry is full of young men and women who have achieved significant success at an early age, and this conference recognized a group of these honorees.

Remarketing’s Under 40 list included four representatives from KAR: Riley Spiers and Sachin Bhalla from TradeRev, Kristin Laswick from ADESA Canada and Joey Abas from ADESA Winnipeg.

Auto Remarketing’s 2018 Women & Automotive Canadian Leadership Forum

Directly following the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference was Auto Remarketing’s 2018 Women & Automotive Canadian Leadership Forum, a one-day event designed to share and discuss practical approaches for advancing women into leadership roles in the Canadian automotive industry.

Becca Polak, chief legal officer and secretary at KAR and president of TradeRev, delivered the opening keynote at the conference, “Accountability, Action & Change in the Automotive Industry.” Becca highlighted some of the hurdles that women in the automotive industry often experience, but encouraged audience members that they can own their career and take steps to fight bias.

We had a great time connecting with our industry colleagues, and sharing ideas and best practices at these two phenomenal AR Canada conferences.

I’ve attended the AR Canada Conference for several years, and I’ve attended the Women & Automotive conference since its inception in 2016.

Both events continue to deliver relevant content while providing great venues for networking. I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy it as well.
